SYRIZA Central Committee Secretary: We don’t Recognize the Agreement with the Troika

The denial of his party to stick with the two-month extension of the Greek program expressed the Secretary of the Central Committee of main opposition SYRIZA, Dimitris Vitsas, leaving at the same time the possibility open of not even recognizing the agreement as a whole. Speaking to Greek media, Vitsas highlighted that SYRIZA “will not stick to the timetable of two months agreed with the lenders. We do not even recognize this agreement and we will not recognize it. So what will they say, you have 15 days to recognize it?” Commenting on the issue occupying the Greek public sphere during the last week, the upcoming Presidential election, the main opposition representative repeated his party’s decision not to vote for a new President of the Hellenic Republic. “We will not vote anyone for President,” Vitsas underlined, insisting that his party will restart the economy, which is currently caught in the middle of the depression. Furthermore, referring to German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schauble‘s statements over the progress the Greek economy has made, he said that the country cannot continue to rely on the solidarity of Europe and Germany in particular, which insists it “needs” to continue on the path of reforms. Schauble “pretends to forget the parameter of the fresh mandate of the Greek people, who will bring other thoughts to the European Union, but also to Schaeuble, I hope,” he concluded.
