SYRIZA Still on the Lead Over New Democracy in New Poll

According to a new poll on voting intent, 23.7% of respondents said they would vote for SYRIZA over New Democracy’s 18.8%. To Potami came third with 6.1%, followed by the Greek Communist Party with 4.9%, Golden Dawn with 4.5% and junior ruling coalition member PASOK with 3.4%, same as Independent Greeks. Popular Orthodox Rally, which is not currently represented in Parliament, got 2%. Another 9.2% said they would vote for some other party, 17.7% said were undecided or did not want to respond and 5.2% said they will not vote. Asked whether they believed this Parliament would be able to select a new President of the Hellenic Republic – which requires a majority of 180 MPs – 58% of respondents said a majority would not be reached, while 33% said it would and another 9% polled “I don’t know/Will not answer.” Asked for choice of Prime Minister, 32% said Greece’s current PM Antonis Samaras is best suited for the job, as opposed to 18% for SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras. A whopping 36% said “none.” The poll was conducted from October 6 to 10. In Metron Analysis’ last poll (September 8-10) SYRIZA was leading with 2.6 percentage points. (source: ana-mpa)
