Air Traffic Controllers’ Strike Declared Illegal

The 48-hour strike announced by Greece’s union of air traffic controllers has been ruled illegal by an Athens First Instance Court. Flights on October 4 and 5 will be held as scheduled. The strike was announced earlier this week to protest the Greek government‘s plans to allow the country’s debt management agency to dip into “navigation fee” accounts. The union has raised concerns that the state would use such accounts to finance public debt. The union of air traffic controllers has said that it will file a complaint to the European Commission against the Greek government for violating EU law. It also intends to submit a report to the European Parliament.
