On September 11, Spyridon Lampridis, Ambassador of Greece to Israel, awarded the Gold Cross of the Order of the Phoenix to Israeli artist Yehuda Poliker, on behalf of the President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias. The Israeli artist was awarded for his contribution to the unification of Greek and Israeli music culture, bringing the two nations closer than ever. Papoulias himself was impressed by the life of Yehuda, his work and his talent, and decided to award him one of the highest awards in the field of culture and arts. Poliker is the son of Holocaust survivors from Thessaloniki who were sent to Auschwitz. He has been promoting both Greek and Israeli culture through his music and work since 1985.
