Unified Property Tax To Be Paid in 6 Installments

The unified property tax known as ENFIA will be paid in six installments. The decision was made at a broad meeting chaired by Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras with the participation of Government Vice-President Evangelos Venizelos, Finance Minister Gikas Hardouvelis and Alternate Finance Minister Christos Staikouras. The first installment is due on September 30 and the final installment on February 28, 2015. The Finance Ministry is expected to proceed with corrections to property prices in 4,000 areas, so that their taxable value can be calculated at a more reasonable rate. Any hopes fostered last week that there would be a 25%-30% discount in the ENFIA payments were dashed due time shortage and dubious financial results that would spell a shortfall of 100 million euros for state coffers. According to sources, homeowners of the earthquake stricken island of Cephalonia will be excluded from this tax. “Everything is under control,” Venizelos said at his doorstep statement after a meeting with Samaras. Samaras and Venizelos had a separate private meeting, during which they decided the changes for the anti-racism bill to be tabled in parliament next week, according to sources. A new meeting between the two men has been scheduled for Wednesday to decide on the stance Greece will hold in the negotiations with the Troika of international lenders.
