Millions of Euros from Criminal Activities Returned to the State
The proceeds of criminal activities against the Greek State, which roughly reach 33.8 million euros, have been deposited in a special Bank of Greece (BoG) account, based on figures presented on Tuesday to the parliamentary standing committee on economic affairs, by Greek Alternate Finance Minister Christos Staikouras. A rider tabled in Parliament by Finance Minister Gikas Hardouvelis and Staikouras defines the amounts deposited in the special bank account as state budget revenues that can be allocated to fund various programs or actions in the sectors of education, research, health or social solidarity. The rider provides that four times a year, in the beginning of each quarter, the ministries of education, labour, social insurance and health can submit detailed proposals to the State Accounting Office, including cost analysis, for the funding of relevant programs.
