Collision ‘Underwater’

A court file that was sent to the Greek Parliament yesterday evening, June 18, appears to have opened Pandora’s box. Reportedly, the file states that PASOK’s leader, Evangelos Venizelos, and former PASOK Finance Minister, Giorgos Papaconstantinou, are criminally liable for the acquisition of four German submarines. This file arrived at the Greek Parliament, after a relevant request by opposition SYRIZA party MP, Zoi Konstantopoulou, a few hours before it closed hastily, ten days ago, therefore, as a result the case did not reach its plenary session. The criminal liability refers to the case of submarines and ship-buildings in Scaramanga, during the period that Evangelos Venizelos and Giorgos Papaconstantinou were part of George Papandreou’s government. PASOK’s response was immediate, making a statement about the fact that this was “a childish move by SYRIZA”, which violates the Constitution. However, PASOK has indicated that it is possible to demand that the prosecutor of the Supreme Court investigates prosecutor’s Popi Papandreou’s disciplinary responsibilities. Sophia Voultepsi, the government representative, responded to SYRIZA in regards to the case of submarines and ship-buildings, speaking of “a joke” in a desperate attempt to cover up some of the many articles that contest party’s leadership.
