Mitroglou in Contention for Brasil, Papadopoulos Ruled Out

The Hellenic Football Federation has named Greece’s provisional 30-man squad for June’s FIFA World Cup in Brasil, from which the final 23 will be selected by coach Fernando Santos on Monday, May 19. Striker Kostas Mitroglou - whose hat-trick against Romania in qualifying booked Greece’s place in the finals - is still in the running for a ticket to Brasil, despite struggling since his January move to relegated Premier League club Fulham. Defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos will miss out due to injury, while Stefanos Kapino and Nikos Karelis are two of four goalkeepers in Santos’ provisional squad. Greece will face Colombia, Japan and Ivory Coast in the group stage.
