2014 ‘Navarino Challenge’ to be Held September in Greece

One of the main Greek sporting events of the past year, “Navarino Challenge,” will be held from September 19 to September 21, 2014 in the Costa Navarino resort in Peloponnese. Launched in 2013, “Navarino Challenge” is a marathon race taking place in the regions of Messinia and Arcadia in southwest Peloponnese, which aims to raise awareness of the global issue of childhood obesity and the benefits of the Mediterranean diet. The renowned Greek-American ultramarathon athlete Dean (Constantine) Karnazes will participate for one more year in the three-day sporting event, actively supporting the cause of the race. After being awarded with the Gold Award in the Tourism Awards organization as the most important initiative in the Greek sport tourism industry, this year’s organization will be enriched with new routes and activities. Apart from the marathon races, on Sunday, September 21, various sport events will be organized for both children and adults in the Costa Navarino complex, along with a conference on childhood obesity and taekwondo lessons by the Greek Olympic medalist Alexandros Nikolaidis. Pilates instructor Manti Persaki will prepare the participants before each race and she will also offer pilates lessons during the event. Furthermore, an event dedicated to Greek folk dances will be organized, while the three-day program will close with a large, festive dinner serving traditional Greek food.
