Fernando Santos Greek National Team, End of an Era?

Greece’s National team manager, Fernando Santos, seems to have decided to leave his current post as soon as the World Cup of Brazil comes to an end. The reason behind his decision is the tempting job offer that he has received from PAOK’s Chairman, Ivan Savvidis. The Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) has already proposed a contract renewal to the Portuguese manager of the Greek National Team and according to some sources Santos will give his answer tonight. Fernando Santos will be in contact with EPO’s president Giorgos Sarris in order to inform him of his intention to leave Greece’s managerial post in order to join PAOK. Mr. Santos has received a 5-year contract offer from PAOK that will bring him 4 million euros if he decides to accept it. The Portuguese manager has revealed this development to EPO’s president and it seems that he wishes to continue his career with PAOK F.C. The Hellenic Football Federation’s officials explained to Mr. Santos that they cannot afford to propose him a contract offer similar to PAOK’s. In fact, they made it crystal clear that they cannot even approach this kind of offer. Mr. Sarris has done everything that it is within his power to persuade Santos to extend his contract with Greece. However, the budget is restricted and no exceptions can be made. On Thursday, it is expected from EPO’s officials to announce officially that Fernando Santos has decided to leave the Greek National team after the Mundial. In addition, EPO’s board of directors are going to gather to discuss the possible replacement of the Portuguese manager.
