Convict in Cyprus Reveals Info on Greek Terrorists
Tassos Tsechilidis revealed new information Saturday on his connection to terrorist groups in Greece, triggering an alarm to the Greek police. According to the Cypriot newspaper “Politis,” after being convicted on Saturday by a Cypriot criminal court for his involvement in the murder of five people in a gang-style execution in Ayia Napa in June 2012, Tsechilidis decided to confess everything he knew with the hope of reducing his sentence of life imprisonment. Tsechilidis seemed to have told the Cypriot police about hidden weapon stashes all over Greece, while also giving away the names of those who had ordered the five murders. He also indicated where he had hidden the murder weapon, along with his friend Dimitris Mamalikopoulos. In the murder case that took place in the heart of Cyprus tourist resort Ayia Napa, Tsechilidis was responsible for keeping a lookout and organizing the escape after his co-conspirator Mamalikopoulos had executed the five men. The Anti-Terrorist Unit of the Hellenic Police also show a particular interest in Mamalikopoulos, as it is indicated that he could be connected to the murder of the Greek journalist Sokratis Giolias in 2010 and the murders of the two Golden Dawn members in the Athenian suburb of Neo Iraklio a couple of months ago. Both inmates seem to be in a pretty bad psychological shape, having illusions of their friends getting them out of jail and hoping to return to Greece. After Tsechilidis physically attacked Mamalikopoulos following the trial on Saturday, both men are being held in different wings at the central prison of Nicosia, Cyprus.
