Cypriots, Turks Look For Soccer Truce

(Reuters) -Greek and Turkish Cypriot officials will meet at FIFA next month to discuss the future of soccer on the divided island, the two sides said. The two sides issued simultaneous statements saying they had been invited by FIFA President Sepp Blatter to discuss and finalize a 'provisional arrangement for football in Cyprus' which would be based on the FIFA and UEFA statutes. 'It is expected that at the end of the deliberations the two delegations will sign a document outlining the steps for the progress of football in the whole of Cyprus, with the approval of FIFA and UEFA,' said the statements. Danone Moves To Seize Greek Yogurt Market

Like many of its rivals, French food group Danone has looked to emerging markets in recent years to offset a somber environment back home. But when it comes to yogurt, there is one emerging market that stands out from the usual suspects: the US. The company lowered full-year targets amid the fallout from a recall of baby milk products in Asia. But in the US, Danone is redoubling efforts to increase its share of a market that has been consistently growing at more than 8 percent a year ? rates that most people would typically associate with consumption patterns in India, China or one of the world?s other high-growth economies. ?It is what we call one of the growth markets,? says Pierre-Andre Terisse, Danone?s Chief Financial Officer. ?For us, it has all the characteristics of an emerging market.?

Greece Will Reject Bailout if Austerity Attached

ATHENS - Sticking to his word, Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras has said ? through Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras ? that if the country?s international lenders insist on more austerity measures if a third bailout is needed that Greece won?t accept the deal. Under intense pressure with social unrest building over the ongoing move to shed some 40,000 public workers over the next two years, the government is also struggling with a burgeoning gap of at least 2 billion euros ($2.73 billion) in its budget with tax revenues far off projections despite big tax hikes that have gone along with big pay cuts and slashed pensions. In an interview with the newspaper Kathimerini, Stournaras said that Greece will reject more aid if the Troika of the European Union-International Monetary Fund-European Central Bank (EU-IMF-ECB) demands more Draconian reforms in return.

FOTOGRAFIA: The Sun Sets on Athens

Sometimes it's difficult to remember during the crushing economic crisis in Greece that there are still places where you can go to forget about it all, if only for a little while, and see a reminder of what the country used to be. Athens, it must be said, is not a charming city and it makes you wince to look at drawings of what it looked like during the glory days when the Parthenon was being built, and even its neo-classical period and then see the descent into dirty, grey concrete graffiti-ridden buildings which abound everywhere. There's little public art, almost no grass and few places where you can find serenity. But you can, if only a bit, atop Lycabettus, a 909-foot high hill where you can grab a view of the city, best done at dusk when the grime is covered. It's the highest point in a city going through some low times.
