Tsunis Nominated U.S. Ambassador to Norway
NEW YORK ? Greek-American businessman, philanthropist and political fundraising powerhouse George J. Tsunis has been nominated by President Barack Obama as his choie for U.S. Ambassador to Norway.
Tsunis, who is the founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Chartwell Hotels and was previously a partner at Rivkin Radler, Long Island?s largest law firm, told The National Herald, ?It is very humbling and truly a great honor to be asked by the President to serve.?
There was a vigorous vetting process through last spring and once that was completed the State Department sent the Norwegian Foreign Ministry a letter announcing the President?s intent to nominate Tsunis. Norway then had to reply with an instrument called an Agrement indicating their acceptance of the candidate. It was signed in August by the Head of State, in this case, the King of Norway.
