Greek Children?s Fund Concert Features Poems of Nikos Gatsos Set to Music

ASTORIA ? 'I wish cancer were not the reason for tonight's event! ' declared Cyprus Consul General in New York Koula Sophianou at The Greek Children?s Fund concert in support of Greek children with cancer and the children of the Greek philanthropic organization, ?Kivotos tou Kosmou? at the Chian Cultural Center in Astoria on October 6. Sophianou continued, ?but cancer exists, as we all unfortunately know?and that's why I congratulate you,? as she turned to Dino Ralis, the man she said had not slept for three months in order for the event to be a success. The tireless efforts of the Fund?s current President, George Kitsios, also helped fill the hall, and both men thanked all the volunteers. The concert featured 11 members of the Omada Nikos Gatsos Orchestra of the Cultural Association of Ano Syros, who traveled all the way from Syros to Astoria through the generosity of Nikos Gavalas, the President of the Amorgos Foundation, and the Greek Children?s Fund, which was founded by Stanley Matthews.
