Venizelos and Anastasiades in New York

NEW YORK ? Every year thousands of foreign officials descend upon Manhattan to attend the ceremonial opening of the UN General Assembly. In recent years, the occasion has also given the leaders of Greece, and now of Cyprus, to inform the Greek and Cypriot-American communities about their countries? economic crises. Evangelos Venizelos, the Greek Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign affairs, and Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades, whose entourage included Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides arrived in New York on Sept. 21. The following week was filled with UN-related events and meetings with members of Congress and institution like the Council on Foreign Relations, but they made sure to also meet with leaders and other members of the community.
