Greek Military Elite Wants Government to Quit
ATHENS ? Greek Special Forces reservists, in a posting on their website, said they want the government to resign and be replaced with a new administration of ?national unity? that would cancel the country's deal with international lenders, put politicians on trial and be backed by the military.
Recalling the days of the repressive dictatorship of the military junta that ruled the country from 1967-74, the posting prompted the government ? already investigating possible ties between the military and the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party ? to launch a new probe.
Defence Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos earlier said he would investigate whether any military forces are training Golden Dawn members, said to have a 3,000-man unit, also working with some police, as a private army.
The Hellenic Special Forces Union (KEED) said an interim government would operate under the ?guarantee? of the Armed Forces.
