Golden Dawners Convicted of Weapons Charges
THESSALONIKI, Greece (AP) ? A court in northern Greece convicted four men identified as members of the far-right Golden Dawn party on Sept. 24 after being arrested carrying knives, pepper spray, and collapsible metal batons, as a probe into the political party's allegedly illegal activities widened.
The court in Thessaloniki, Greece's second largest city, convicted the men aged 20 to 39 on public disturbance offenses and illegal weapons possession changes, handing them suspended sentences of between six and 10 months.
The government has vowed to crack down on the group it has described as a neo-Nazi organization, after the murder last week of Pavlos Fyssas, a 34-year-old rap singer stabbed outside a cafe by a man who later identified himself as being involved in the group
