Spyridon Gianniotis of Greece retained his title in the 10-kilometer open water marathon at the swimming world championships in Barcelona, Spain, surging ahead on the final lap to avoid a sprint with the Olympic champion Oussama Mellouli of Tunisia.
Gianniotis clocked 1 hour 49 minutes 11.8 seconds. Thomas Lurz of Germany, a five-time world champion, finished second, 2.7 seconds behind. ...
