Greece poised for general strike

A day-long general strike has begun in Greece, called by trade unions, in protest against government plans to cut thousands of public sector jobs. The government needs to pass a bill this week in order to start receiving 6.8bn euros (5.8bn) of fresh bailout loans to keep the country afloat.
