Briton killed in party resort on Crete

Police in Malia, notorious for its wild nightlife, say the 20-year-old man had been stabbed in the chest outside a bar

A British man has been killed on the Greek island of Crete, according to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

The 20-year-old victim is believed to have been stabbed in the chest outside a bar in the party resort of Malia in the early hours of the morning.

Police in the town, notorious for its wild nightlife, said he had been stabbed in the chest and that they were looking for a single attacker. Malia is a popular destination for young revellers, often on holiday without their parents for the first time, with many bars, restaurants and low-budget hotels.

An FCO spokesman said: "We can confirm the death of a British national in Malia, Greece on July 23. We stand ready to provide consular assistance to the family."
