Greek extremists accused of anti-immigrant attacks

Immigrants claiming they was attacked by members of the extreme-right Golden Dawn party, are seen at the United Against Racism and Fascist Violence Movement office during a press conference in Athens, Thursday, June 21, 2012. An immigrants support group is accusing an extreme right wing group of launching a wave of attacks against immigrants prior last weekend’s crucial elections in Greece and in the days following the poll. United Against Racism and Fascist Violence Movement coordinator Petros Constantinou said there have been “hundreds” of such attacks and accused the Golden Dawn party of organizing the violence. Constantinou said Golden Dawn’s strong showing in the elections in which they won 18 seats after campaigning on an anti-immigrant and anti-bailout platform has emboldened the group to step up such attacks.
