Ministry of Foreign Affairs announcement on the 10th anniversary of the outbreak of the war in Syria

On the tragic 10th anniversary of the outbreak of the Syrian civil war, which has already left hundreds of thousands dead and millions of refugees, Greece, which actively promotes the based on International Law consolidation of peace and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean, continues to support the efforts to achieve a political solution. This solution must ensure the country’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, based on UN Security Council Resolution 2254. Achievement of this solution requires the immediate withdrawal of foreign forces from the country’s territory. Moreover, Syria must cease to be a field of conflict for foreign interests that act to the detriment of the country and the Syrian people. In this context, Greece continues to fully support the efforts being made by the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen. It should be noted in this regard that Greece continues to host thousands of Syrian refugees, to whom it provides humanitarian and social assistance, bearing a significant burden in relation to its capabilities.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs announcement on the new missile attack on oil facilities in Saudi Arabia (19 March 2021)

Greece unequivocally condemns the recent drone attack on oil facilities in the capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh. These attacks endanger the civilian population, violate the rules of International Law, and compromise security and stability in a very sensitive region.Once again, we underscore that such actions substantially undermine the international efforts, which Greece fully supports, towards a comprehensive political solution that benefits all the people of Yemen.

Coronavirus live: England sets daily jabs record; Von der Leyen issues fresh warning to AstraZeneca

Israel approves new coronavirus regulations for cultural and sporting events; cases in India at four-month high * Protesters opposing Covid regulations clash with police in German city * Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan tests positive for Covid * China’s first local Covid case since February had been vaccinated – state media 5.40pm GMT The BRAZILIAN GOVERNMENT has been in talks with the US about potentially importing excess Covid-19 vaccines since 13 March, the foreign ministry tweeted. On Friday, the White House announced plans to “loan” 4m doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine to Canada and Mexico, but reportedly has no plans for doses to be loaned to other countries. _The White House has no plans to loan doses to other countries, according to an administration official._ _Brazil is facing the second-deadliest outbreak of coronavirus after the United States, that has worsened with a new wave in recent weeks pushing the hospital system to the brink of collapse._ Since March 13, the Brazilian Government, through Itamaraty and the Embassy in Washington, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, has been negotiating with the US Government to make it possible for Brazil to import vaccines from the surplus available in the United States. 5.21pm GMT Next month, GREECE will begin distributing FREE COVID-19 TESTS that will allow residents to do it themselves and reduce pressure on the healthcare system, which has faced a rise in new positive cases. The Greek government has announced that people with a social security number will be eligible for four test kits per month, which will be distributed at pharmacies. _ It is a new tool in the country’s battle against the pandemic. The tests will allow better epidemiological monitoring, and of course prevention,” the prime minister’s office said in a statement. _ _The government said the do-it-yourself test kits have an accuracy rate of about 95%-99%. They are easier to do than rapid tests, needing nasal and saliva samples instead of the nasopharyngeal sample used in rapid tests._ Continue reading...

Ministry of Foreign Affairs announcement on the participation of Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias in the Ministerial Meeting of the International Coalition for the Sahel (19 March 2021)

Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias participated today, 19 March 2021, in the Ministerial Meeting of the International Coalition for the Sahel (“Coalition pour le Sahel”), which took place via videoconference. In his intervention, the Minister noted that the situation in the Sahel region continues to require the attention of the international community from both a humanitarian and security perspective. The cooperation of international partners with the G5 group of Sahel countries contributes to the response to the complex challenges the region is facing due to the fragile security environment. The interconnected problems include growing poverty, the activities of criminal and terrorist organizations, and increasing illegal migration flows. The Minister highlighted that, in this context, Greece is strengthening its presence in the region through the recent opening of a new embassy in Senegal and the appointment of the Greek Ambassador to Dakar as the Foreign Ministry's Special Envoy for the Sahel. Mr. Dendias stressed that this is a practical manifestation of Greece’s interest in Western Africa and the countries of the Sahel, with the aim of actively supporting the efforts to enhance the region’s security and stability, in collaboration with the countries of the region, the European Union and other international partners.
