Roberto Cavalli pulls out the glamour for cinematic looks for next summer's diva
MILAN (AP) — Robert Cavalli's created looks for cinematic divas for his summer 2014 women's collection.
Shown under the bright white lights of a movie set, the red carpet collection featured flowing gowns, many beaded, and all in muted shades. The gowns draped the body without ever clinging — a change for Cavalli.
The collection previewed Saturday, the fourth day of Milan Fashion Week, was on message with trends seen around Milan this week: pastel colors, metallic shimmers and diaphanous fabrics.
But there were plenty of Cavalli touches for the upcoming stars of "Cavalliwood," as the designer's wife and creative partner Eva quipped backstage after the show.
Sequins, beads and tassels vamped up the looks. And though the collection is for summer, the designer finished many looks with colored fur stoles draped over one shoulder, recalling the heydays of Hollywood.
The show wrapped with some after-Oscar party looks, including a rock-and-roll silver leather jacket worn over a lacy metallic top and silver-beaded trousers.
Picking up on the ethereal feel, Cavalli created a stiletto heel with extra-long silver laces that can be wrapped around the ankle or all the way up the calf, Greek-style.
